Ivanhoe real estate is mostly land and river. Ivanhoe is a small community of about 500 people (501 at the 2020 census) that sits on the line between Wythe and Carroll counties, on the New River. New River Trail State Park passes right through it, so the trail and the river are part of daily life here.
Ivanhoe was an industrial place once. An iron blast furnace ran here until the 1910s, and the nearby mines and rock quarry have since closed. It's also the birthplace of Robert Sayers Sheffey, the well-known Methodist circuit rider. Today it's quiet, open country.
